Rev. Joe Hopkins

Our Ministry Leadership

Joe Hopkins has been the minister of Streetsville United Church since October of 2022. Joe tries to lead the various facets of the church by three principles: authenticity, passion, and grace.
Joe stays authentic by drawing on his upbringing and ordination in the United Methodist Church in central Pennsylvania (no taking the mountain boy out of him). Joe kindles his passions by enjoying the great outdoors through canoeing, cycling, and running; expressing himself musically through blowing a trumpet, strumming a guitar, and singing in the choir; and exploring this big, beautiful world and his new Canadian home with his wife.
And Joe recognizes his everyday need of grace—the immeasurable power of God’s love—as he journeys with God’s people as a follower of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ. Joe’s education includes a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Spanish from Bucknell University, a master of divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary, and continuing education in new ways of gathering at the church. His professional background includes jobs in theatre tech, labour organizing, campus ministry, hospice chaplaincy, and landscaping (not necessarily in that order).
Joe has led three churches prior to Streetsville United, including two United Methodist congregations in Pennsylvania and one in the West End of Toronto.
Joe lives in Mississauga with his wife and cat and he really likes coffee and cats.
